Use Puppy Pads to Potty train a puppy
If you are gone from home all day and there is no one around to take your puppy outside, you know that they won’t be able to hold it that long and you may come home to a mess if you don’t make prior arrangements for them to find a place that you approve of to do their business. One way that you can do that is by using puppy pads. These are convenient for you to clean up and also teach your puppy where he can use the bathroom in your home.
These potty training devices or Puppy pads will help not only your puppy but also your adult dog. If your dog or puppy is in a crate all day, then you can put one of these in his crate to make it easier for you to clean it up when you get home.
If your puppy is in an exercise pen during the day, then you can put one in there in the corner so that he has a nice quiet place to use the bathroom.
One way that you can help your puppy is to feed him on a schedule, and then take him outside after meals. This will help reduce accidents in the home, but also get them trained for a schedule. Puppies will have to use the bathroom after feedings and after they wake up from naps.
To use the puppy training pads after you bring them inside from going potty, lay down a puppy pad in the area that you want them to use, you will want to put it as far away from where they will be napping during the day as possible so that they will be more apt to use the puppy pads. Since dogs do not use the bathroom near where they sleep, you want to make sure that it’s far enough away from their sleeping area as possible.
Lay the puppy pad out flat and watch your dog to see when they are ready to use it. Once you see that they are ready to use the bathroom, carry them over to the pad and encourage them to use the puppy pads. You may have to do this several times till they understand that this is the place that they need to go. Praise them when they sue the puppy pad.
One thing that you don’t want to do is to punish them if they have accidents other places. This is a learning process to them about using the puppy pads to go to the bathroom.
Once you have your puppy trained to use the puppy training pads, the accidents will decrease and your puppy will only use the puppy training pad when no one is home to take them outside to use the bathroom.
Puppy pads can make housebreaking your puppy easier and can be bought from vets and dog supply stores. Sometimes you can even get them at your local Wal-Mart or Target store.
