Training dogs is a profession any loving dog owner can take up on his own pet. If you are one of them and have been deterred by well meaning friends and relatives have probably failed themselves; don?t lose hope. It may be that wrong techniques have been used, teaching has not been consistent, or patience just ran out. There are times that dog training will severely test the affinity you have for your dog– but this comes with equally rewarding results. You will have a better relationship with your pet and your home will be cleaner too.

To be an effective instructor of these dog training tips, let us take a look into the average dog?s uncomplicated mind. While we human beings are intelligent creatures, our dogs are several levels lower. Human beings can understand through logic and general assumptions. Dogs can only get their owner?s expressed wish through a pattern of consistent commands and repetitive actions. For example, to us ?Let?s go boy!? and ?Come!? and ?Come here boy!? all mean the same thing but not with dogs. Even if he does approach you eventually, it doesn’t necessarily mean he comprehends you.

You need to be consistent and repetitive in teaching your dogs. Use the exact word or phrase each time you give a command.

A healthy and successful relationship with your dog starts with the establishment of your authority over him as his master. Be firm and strong when you deal with him, never harsh and violent. Once the dog understands this, he will seek to be a ‘good boy’ and obey commands promptly if he knows this pleases you.

Rubbing the dog?s belly is a good strategy in enforcing your authority. It teaches him submission by allowing him to lick the back of your hand. Never concede to his growling and whining just to keep him quiet. It is imperative that you establish habits that lead to good behavior the earlier the better.

An effective trick experts use is to allow the dog to learn by teaching himself. What do I mean? Let’s say, your dog is chewing on something he isn’t supposed to be chewing. You can scold him and take away the object immediately. This is a common canine training method. A better way is to take away bad behavior is through substituting it with a good one by giving unpleasant sensations with the incorrect behavior.

When the dog chews on a shoe, use a quick sharp squirt of a water gun to his face. If he resumes chewing, squirt him again. Now place one of his playthings in front of him. If he picks it up and plays with it, praise him enthusiastically. The dog will associate good feelings with playing with his toy and bad feelings when playing with the shoe.

Dog socialization in an important but often overlooked area of dog training. Developing social skills should start within three months of the puppy’s life. However, it would be good to have even older dogs socialize with people and other dogs regularly. Put socialization high up in the training priority list by introducing him to different kinds of people and animals (make sure they’re healthy) throughout his life.

As any parent would know, you discipline that which you love and care for. The dog training tips as outlined above will greatly help your dogs become the happier, best version of themselves. Nobody said it would be easy, but it will always be worth it.

When you first bring your puppy home, you just want to spoil it and play with it all the time. But there are times when your puppy’s enthusiasm and energy can sometimes be annoying or downright destructive. That is why puppy crate training can be a great way to getting your pup to grow up happy and healthy.

Before you even bring your dog home, choose a crate that will suit your pup’s size and how much they will grow. Make sure that the dog’s crate is large enough. That means that you need to ensure that your dog has the room to turn around and get comfortable in their crate. Always put a blanket or towel in, preferably something that has your scent which will calm the dog when they are feeling anxious.

Before you bring your puppy home for the first time, think through which rooms you would like to introduce your dog to first. Choose a room that has little that can be damaged, and a place where the dog can see you while it explores the area. Be sure to put the crate in that room, and let the pup explore while you watch and reassure them. Keep the crate door open, and put a blanket or towel in it that has your scent (sleep in it or rub it all over your body). This will make the dog associate the crate with you, warmth, happiness and comfort.

Crates are made of all kinds of materials. If your dog is a chewer, you will not want something made of a plastic or polymer. Choose wire frame crates for your chewer. If they are skilled escape artists, find a crate that has locking latches or latches that require two hands to open.

A benefit of crate training is that you have a safe place to put your pup while you are away. When you first start doing this, leave for no more than an hour or two at a time. This will reduce your puppy’s anxiety and help them feel happy. Once your dog has gotten used to you being away for an hour or two at a time, you can start to leave it’s crate door open and come and go without worry of returning to a disaster.

Your dog’s crate can be used as a way to discourage other bad behaviour. Is constant barking a problem? Put your dog into its crate for a short time out. Has the dog left you a nasty surprise in your shoes? If you have caught them in the act, rub their nose in it and then send them for a time out.

However, one of the greatest benefits of using a crate is simply this: when your dog has its “den”, it will always feel safe no matter where it is. You can even travel with a crate. And when the dog sleeps in its den at night, you can have a good nights’ sleep rather than fighting over the sheets. This will help your dog be a happy dog, secure in the knowledge that the big dog cares about it and that it has a safe place to go no matter when.

Being consistent and not giving up on your dog is what it takes to get started in Crate Training Dogs. Many dog trainers recommend this process to get your dog housebroken. Having a dog go to the bathroom in the house is not acceptable, so this is an easy way to train.

Dogs will naturally keep their home dry, it is a natural thing for them to do. Puppies and adult dogs will not soil their special home, thus making it easy to housebreak them.

Crates can be used to travel in, a place to put your dog if you have to leave for a couple of hours, or a place for an airplane ride. It is good to get your dog used to a crate so he can be put there on occasion.

If you feel a punishment is needed for a dog, do not put it in the crate. The dog needs to know that it is his safe place to be and not a bad place where he gets locked up.

This type of training will take a lot of patience and time. It can take days to weeks depending how your dog responds to the training.

When choosing a crate, their are lots of choices. The plastic ones are nice and usually have a locking door and a feeding dish. Fabric cages are pretty good but owners need to stay with their pet. Metal cages collapse making it easy to pack in a car, and does not take up much space. A dog needs to be able to turn around and stand up in the cage, to be the right size.

Toys and some food are a great way to get the puppy or dog interested in the crate. Training is simply done by luring the dog into the cage and providing food and water to encourage him to stay there. Put some food on the outside and slowly dribble it into the end of the cage. The dog will soon find out this is a great place to live.

Being sure there is fresh water daily is very important. A dog will whine until he gets used to his new home. Do not let him out when he whines but wait until he is done, so he learns whining is not okay.

It is important not to leave him in the crate too long. Puppies will need to go outside during the night. Do not crate a dog for more than four hours at a time. If a person is gone all day, make arrangements for your pet. He should not be crated all day and again at night.

Dogs crying at night is not uncommon, he is in a new place and needs to adjust. Puppies have to be taken out at night, and you will need to decide if a dog just wants out or has to go to the bathroom. Keeping the cage near you at night will help the dog to not feel so lonely.

Remember to take your pet outside after eating, the dog or puppy needs exercise on a regular basis so do not use the crate to contain him all day. It should be a good and happy place for short periods of time and a place to sleep at night.

Ever since the idea was invented, a dog choke chain has had its champions and detractors. Some feel that it's an excellent tool for keeping an animal under control, while others believe it's an animal cruelty device and should be banned from use.

Ever since the idea was invented, a dog choke chain has had its champions and detractors. Some feel that it’s an excellent tool for keeping an animal under control, while others believe it’s an animal cruelty device and should be banned from use.

You might ask several people and get several different answers. Some believe that a choke device or collar has its place and you may see them being used by professional dog handlers while parading their pure bred around the ring for judging. Many will tell you that if owners trained their dogs properly, there would never be any need for such a device.

Many feel that a choke chain has its uses and can be an effective tool for controlling an unruly animal. This is not what the choke chain was designed for however, and shouldn’t be used as such. Choke chains and collars are for use in training and when used properly, tell your dog that it is business time and you need its full attention.

There are generally three types of choke collars: chain, nylon and prong. Purchasing an effective and safe collar is dependent upon getting the right size for your animal. To do this, take a piece of twine or something similar and place it around your pet’s neck about one inch behind its ears. Place two of your fingers underneath to provide a bit of breathing space, and add two and a half inches. If you can, take your pet to the store with you so that you can try out several types to get the correct size.

The idea behind a choke training device is to simulate the action of a mother dog when she grasps a naughty pup behind the ears, at the scruff of the neck, for reprimanding. This is why, when used properly, the choke comes up behind the ears of your dog, not around its neck, trachea and esophagus.

Whichever type of device you purchase, be sure that it works smoothly and properly and that you, as the owner, know how to operate it. If you don’t, you can seriously injure your dog. The device is for training purposes and is not a collar that should be left on the dog under any circumstances, no matter how grand it looks on. Do not allow children to operate the choke. A choke collar does choke and your dog could suffer serious harm.

Your pet should know that when you place the choke collar on him, it has come time for training and some fun time together with you. He should become attentive and focused on you and what you want from him.

The animal should be close to your side in the heel position as you walk along. When the dog needs correction, the choke collar should be quickly pulled up behind and ears, and a sharp verbal correction such as “NO!” expressed in a firm voice. The tension on the choke should then immediately be released. The quick tension behind the ears and the verbal reprimand gets the animal’s attention and tells it that it did something you didn’t like. Dogs are eager to please and with patience and consistent training, they will come around to understand what is and isn’t okay.

Your dog should not be gasping and coughing if you are using the device properly. You should be using a smooth pulling, not a jerking motion. You’re not attempting to give your pet whiplash. Remember, the choke collar is not for punishing your animal under any circumstances. There really is no reason for punishing unwanted behavior. A sharp noise and distraction are really all that is needed to move your pet away from disagreeable conduct.

Be good to your pet, patient and caring and you will have it returned three-fold. While training and using the dog choke collar for correction, don’t forget to reward their attention and attempts to cooperate. Be generous with your praise and rewards.

Dog choke collars are an effective control and training device when used correctly. Pet Naturals collar options include these and many other types of collars and leashes for your favorite canine.

Nothing is harder than working with a dog that is not working within your household. If you have a new dog that needs some training you might be asking yourself, what are the different types of dog training that you can use? Luckily for you, here is the best guide full of the best tips to use to your advantage! Before you know it, you will have the perfect dog!

You will need to get familiar with the different types of dog training that you can use to your advantage. Due to the fact that there are dogs of different breeds and ages, you need to do your research. Figure out what our dogs problems are and you can tackle them one at a time.

You should not start your dog with complicated tricks and training methods. You will need to start with the simple basics so that your dog can learn slowly as well as effectively. Start with teaching your dog how to sit and lay down. Simply commands will surely help you out.

Those who are trying to train puppies have the most work ahead of them. Luckily for you, puppies are easier to train because they are able to learn about everything. Take the time to teach them to go to the bathroom outside as well as keep from digging and chewing on various items. This is a bit challenging, but you will get through it within a few months.

Once your dog reaches the intermediate stage, you can start teaching them how to interact and walk with other dogs. Walking is hard for puppies but can still be taught in an effective manner. Make sure that you reward your dog for good behavior throughout your training. If your dog is not receiving the right rewards, it will become very confused or unmotivated to keep training.

If you are having trouble with your dog training methods, you need to employ the right hand signals. Hand signals will clearly tell a dog what they need to do. If you do not use hand signals, you might have a very hard time telling your dog what they need to do. When you want your dog to stay, make sure that you place your hand in front of you while you say the command. This will surely give your dog the right message.

If you are not having the luck that you need with your dog, there are trainers such as Bark Busters within your area that are sure to help you out. Take the time to talk with a trainer in order to get better tips and pointers. Any bit of information is going to help get your dog on the right track.

Dog training is not as hard as you might think. As long as you know what you need to train your dog effectively, you should be in good shape. Take the time right now to find out what you need to do and start training your dog so that you can enjoy!

Training a puppy can be challenging, but the rewards are priceless. Let the professional experts in puppy training train your dog in learning what is acceptable behaviour. You can find great dog training services in Kelowna.

When most people get a new puppy, they spend hours with it playing, allowing the puppy to bite their fingers, thinking it is so cute. While it is cute, the puppy is actually trying to relay to you that they are in charge. This, of course, can lead to problems. The key is to learn how to effectively deal with dog bite behavior.

If you just got your puppy, it is best to stop this dog bite behavior immediately. Even though it is just a baby, through its biting, it is training to gain dominance over you. Enrolling your new puppy in a dog obedience class can help you to learn how to gain dominance. More importantly, though, it is important that let it know that you are in charge by not letting it bite you at all. Use a firm “No” when necessary and if the puppy gets out of hand biting, be sure to remove it from the situation.

Those who have just acquired a young dog between the ages of one and four will also find it may try to display dominance in many situations. Again, a good obedience class will help you to learn how to get a handle on the situation. It may seem like it is just playing, but if he is not listening to your commands, it can lead to rough play that could turn nasty.

Most dogs that are over the age of four tend to be pretty set in there ways and if they have had any real aggressiveness, they may have already been put down. This is such a sad thing to see, as with the right behavioral training, it could have been prevented. However, it is important to remember that it is never too late to train your dog.

Furniture, shoes, toys and tennis balls are all prime targets for the little puppy that you’ve just brought home. When this happens, you might be inclined to discipline your dog but avoid doing this.

When a puppy goes through its teething period, it just can’t be helped and unlike full-grown dogs, they know no better. The only thing you can do is keep your precious things out of the puppy’s reach.

you will be able to find formulated dog food at any good pet store, especially made for teething dogs. The type of food needs to not be too crunchy or it will be difficult for your pup to chew. Your dog might even suffer a loss of appetite for a few days and it’s normal. Just make sure you give it plenty of water to drink to maintain its level of hydration.

Puppies do need to gnaw at something to ease help ease their teething sensitivity, so make sure you give your pup ample items to chew on.

As they are not much different from babies and know no better, don’t give them any toys that can break off into smaller pieces that might accidentally be swallowed. Safe toys can be anything from a rag doll to an old tennis ball, anything that you don’t need or want any longer can be used as a chew toy.

Some other safety precautions that you will have to take when you bring a new puppy into your home is to ensure that any electrical cables and cords are kept away from the puppy – especially the live ones!

Getting a in-house dog fence is a great idea to prevent your puppy from roaming to hazardous locations around your home. They’re an effective and inexpensive solution to keep your dog safe until it grows a little older. You will find these pet fences readily available for you to order on the internet.

You will have to take responsibility and pay close attention to the puppy over the next few months until the teething period is over. That includes not letting it run about outside your home. Always be there to supervise or invest in a dog run to keep your pet safe.

Pets are really great and lovely especially if your pet is man’s best friend which is a puppy. Puppy as a pert can be a real fun and you will enjoy your life more. It is true that many complications and difficulties will occur but with proper mind set any type of difficulties can be handled. Training your puppy is a tough but a fun job which also increases love and affection between you and your puppy. Well there are many ways to train your puppy but you must choose the right one for your puppy or your puppy will become somehow aggressive and disrespectful.

Puppies are very cute and behave just like small children. They try to do that work which makes their owner or master happy. Well whatever you say or think all puppies chew. The best way to reduce this habit is to give them some chewing toys so that they do not damage your furniture and interior. Usually puppy chew because of boredom and if they don not have any thing to do so having the toys they can play with them and chew them as well. This is a very effective way to ensure your furniture is safe as well as your puppy.

Kindergarten for puppy is probably the best way to initially train them and describe the firm rules to them. You take your puppy out of your home, take a walk, let your puppy enjoy and meet other dogs and people as well. In this way your puppy will learn some basic skills and well also have some fun. Many people let their puppy stay in home which makes a bad habit in the puppy and them also sometimes afraid from people and try to attack them. Puppy should be taken out of the house when they are older than four months.

Setting up and defining the boundaries to the puppy is one of the most effective ways of all. Unclear boundaries and inconsistency are probably the main reasons which create problems between the pet owner and the pet. The master should know that he is the leader and the puppy is the follower, and if this not happen then the puppy becomes confused which leads to some disaster. In this problem bad behavior of puppy is seen with some aggression and negative emotions. Always first clear the boundaries to the puppy to not create any problem after sometime.

Crate training your dog is a very important training which is probably a must. Crate training looks like inhumane way of training the puppy as in the crate there will be only space for the puppy to turn around. But it is very effective and helpful. One thing must be remember that when you are crate training your puppy, your puppy should not think that you are giving him some punishment. Always try to puppy train your dog where there are many people such as in the lounge where they can see their master. You can also make the crate comfortable by putting some amenities in the crate. Well the above described are the best possible ways to train your puppy effectively.

We know the definition of ‘The Honeymoon Period’ accustomed to describe the initial, deliriously happy months of a relationship. Most people are on their finest behavior and feeling giddy and positive regarding the future. Regrettably, these times of what appears to be limitless joy generally wraps up.

An identical, albeit generally much smaller, vacation period is usually felt by new pet parents. Even though, unlike people in a new relationship, I don’t think the dog or puppy is on its best behavior with the knowing that they’re going to begin a new, hopefully long-term relationship. Rather, several dogs are in a situation of serious adjustment to what’s a totally new world.

A new environment, sights, sounds, people and perhaps other animals may result in a dog type of turning down a bit (or a lot!) because they take in all this new information and attempt to discover their place in the world. This is related to a person being plopped down in a new country. It might seem easy to understand that they may take several days or weeks to calmly notice and figure things out.

Lots of people end up calling a dog trainer for aid only after weeks or months have passed using their new dog inside their home. Initially they put off calling because there does not appear to be a necessity. Their new dog is kind of calm, passive, and quiet. However, as the dog becomes modified and more secure their true personality shines through. With it usually comes a list of what, to their new family anyway, appear to be new behaviors (this could be excessive barking, inappropriate chewing, growling when food or toys are taken away).

The behaviors are not really new to the dog; they’re just new to the dog in its new home. When these behaviors learn to show themselves, everyone is usually captured off guard. Therefore, they might in the beginning assume that these things are just a few time mistakes and the dog will go back to their ‘normal’ behavior soon without intervention on their part.

One of the only ways your pooch can communicate is by barking. It is his main tool for conveying a variety of messages. He’ll do it when there’s a stranger lurking on your porch; he’ll do it to let you know he needs to go outside; and he’ll do it when he wants your attention. The problem is, excessive barking can rattle anyone’s nerves, including your neighbors. To prevent them from becoming frustrated, and to preserve your own sanity, you’ll need to take steps to curb your dog’s behavior.

The first step is to realize why your canine barks. Once you understand the underlying triggers, you can implement measures to address them. That’s where we’ll start. We’ll then offer a few savvy tips for modifying his behavior and enjoying peace and quiet in your home.

Why Dogs Bark

Your dog’s barking may be prompted by one of several factors. He may simply want your attention, even if just to let you know that he needs to go outside. Or, he might sense others are nearby and bark to warn them to stay away. Your canine may also do it out of sheer boredom, such as when he has been left in the garage all day.

Other reasons include fear, playfulness, and health reasons. Regarding fear, your dog may be overly-sensitive to certain types of stimuli (e.g. thunderclaps, car backfires, people on bicycles, etc.). If he is playful by nature, he may bark excessively when greeting people. Lastly, many canines suffering health limitations will express themselves more vocally. For example, a dog that is losing his hearing may compensate by barking more frequently.

Determining the reasons your canine barks requires time and effort. But once you do so, you can take steps to modify his behavior.

Eliminate The Catalyst

One of the quickest ways to stop your dog’s barking is to sever the connection between him and whatever is prompting the behavior. For example, suppose he barks whenever he looks out through your windows and observes people walking nearby. Pull the drapes to sever the connection. Or, suppose he barks at other pets while he’s roaming around your backyard. If so, bring him inside your home.

Sometimes, the most effective method for curbing a dog’s excessive barking is also the easiest. If you can identify the trigger, eliminate your canine’s exposure to it.

Withhold Your Attention

This method takes patience. When your canine barks for your attention, he is rewarded when you give it to him, even if you’re merely telling him to be quiet. As long as he receives what he wants, he’ll behave similarly in the future. After all, he know it works.

The goal here is to withhold your attention completely. When he begins barking, turn your back and refuse to look at him. If he comes around to your front, turn your back on him again. Avoid petting him; avoid looking at him; even avoid yelling at him to stop barking. When he eventually stops, provide a treat and praise him. This helps him learn that barking causes you to ignore him, while staying quiet results in something he likes (e.g. a food treat).

Desensitize Him To The Stimulus

Dogs can develop many types of sensitivities, and they bark whenever they are exposed to them. For example, your canine might react to the sound of your automatic garage door. Or, he might begin barking excitedly whenever he observes people riding bicycles. Desensitization training seeks to build your dog’s tolerance for stimuli that excites him.

It is a gradual process that provides him with increasing amounts of exposure. If he is able to control himself while exposed to the stimuli, he earns a reward. Eventually, you’ll notice the factors that caused him distress and anxiety in the past will have less effect. It can take weeks to see noticeable results, but the effort is usually worthwhile.

All canines bark. Some do so much more than others. Use the suggestions above to modify your dog’s behavior so you, your family, and your neighbors can enjoy some peace and quiet.
