Golden Doodle Dogs are a result of a mixture of purebred golden retriever and purebred poodle. The character of the puppy depends on size. Over twenty five pounds tend to have the good nature of the retriever. Smaller dogs may tend to exhibit the intelligence for which the poodle is well known. They are valued for their non shedding coats and their easy going manner. There are some common inherited conditions in both breeds that the breeders attempt to avoid.
The dogs come in standard, medium and miniature size. Since the height, weight and color of the coat are the result of crossing different breeds, the results can vary. The most usual colors for the coat are gold, red, cream or white. Less common are dogs with black or silver coats. And, a puppy with a brown coat is counted as rare.
The largest size will typically grow to be around forty five pounds. A medium sized puppy has the potential to reach between thirty and forty pounds when full grown. The smallest sized animals, akin to the smaller poodles, only reach fifteen or twenty pounds as adults. Of course, these are only general categories. Specific size will vary according to each individual situation.
Since the puppies are hybrids of two purebred species, the American Kennel Club or United Club does not recognize nor register it. They have only been deliberately bred since 1992, though in various places, so definitive characteristics, as in a purebred breed, have not been established.
Hip dysplasia happens to both poodles and golden retrievers congenitally, so that is one condition the breeders attempt to avoid in the pups. Some breeders attempt to select dogs for the hypo allergenic quality of the coat. This is suspected to be easier for people with dog hair allergies to endure. Eye disorders are another area that both breeds have an inherited susceptibility.
Temperament may suit these dogs to be a family companion or a service dog. They are amenable to training because of their alert intelligence. They are considered to be affable, human oriented and tolerant of other dogs in the home. They have talent as bird dogs and are good swimmers. The hybrids are known for their vigor and good humor. These puppies may have many traits to endear themselves to owners and make ideal family pets.
Breeders specialize in these dogs. Do not worry if there is not one in your local area. Dogs are often shipped to new homes by airplane. The dogs should be vaccinated and worm free before arriving at your home. A vet should thoroughly inspect your new pet before it leaves the breeders.
So, if you are looking for a family pet or a service dog, you might consider contacting a breeder of golden doodle dogs. They can answer specific questions about size, weight, and coat texture. A breeder will most likely have experience in shipping the puppy that you reserve to you when the dog is old enough. Prices do vary, but you can check out the Internet for further information.
