Obedience Training
Obedience Training is something that you will want to do with your dog so that they are behaved when you are out in public and they are more a part of your family when they are at home with you.
One thing that you don’t want is an aggressive dog. Many people who own ’so called aggressive’ dogs breed have them so well trained that they are more behaved then the no so aggressive dog breeds. So it doesn’t matter what kind of dog breed you own, they all can be trained to be obedient dogs.
Obedient training starts the minute you bring a new dog into your home. Right away you want to show them what their boundaries are and what will be acceptable behavior from them. Saying no in a firm voice is usually all that you have to do.
Walking with a dog is great exercise for you and the pet, and it tires them out, it can also be used as training each time you take them out. A firm tug on the leash will usually bring the dog back into line real quick.
If you don’t have the time to teach your dog manners you may want to hire an obedient trainer or take them to class weekly where a professional will teach you how to control your dog. If you are unfamiliar with a large dog or have problems teaching your pet you may want to consider this. If your dog shows any signs of aggression, you will defiantly want to seek out professional help while they are still puppies, it usually will not go away on its own, but will need professional help to control the dog.
Dog Obedience classes will not only help get your dog to socialize with other dogs but will also give you great tips on how you can train your dog at home and what you can do to curb bad behavior. There are many vet offices that will give you names of reputable classes in your area, your vet would be a good place to start when looking for classes.
Cesar’s Training tips for dogs can be helpful to you. He knows dog behavior and will teach you on his DVD’s on how to train your dog.
Red Flags for training dogs
If you are taking your dog to a class and they are teaching you to hit or harm your dog, immediately quit that class there is no need to show violence with an animal. Some trainers think that this is the way to get control of the dog, it isn’t. Patience and love and firmness is the way to teach a dog to be obedient. Your dog may put up a fight a first resisting to obey but after a few sessions and you showing them that it’s going to be done your way not theirs, they will obey you.
Get the family involved and on the Same Page
Involving the family is the only way to get the pet to listen to everyone in the house. We made that mistake once, and the dog wouldn’t listen to me at all only to my partner. I was the doormat for the dogs.
They picked up on that real quick and they proceeded to train me instead of letting me train them. Everyone in the family has to be on the same page. If one person lets the dog sleep on the furniuture and the other won’t it will confuse the dog. Always stay consistant for a well adjusted dog. Your dog will love you for it.
